After a long winter it was very pleasing to get the 2010
Society golfing season under way. Erewash Valley Golf Club
kindly hosted our first match of the season and the visitors
were the Society of Norfolk Golf Captains.
Steven Gallagher the host club Captain was unfortunately
unable to play because of injury, however he was able to
join the Society for dinner and expressed his best wishes
to all present and said it was gratifying to hear good comments
regarding the course and facilities at Erewash Valley.
Norfolk won the first three matches and the result looked
to be going the visitor’s way. Host club players formed
part of the remaining pairings and in some very close games
Derbyshire came back from 4 – 1 down to achieve a
match half.
Peter Brabbing the Derbyshire Captain welcomed the Norfolk
team, and especially their President Frank Myers who had
recently retired as the Norfolk Secretary. In fact, to have
both sets of Presidents, Frank and Spen Stanway of Derbyshire,
together with both Captains and Secretaries showed how much
the fixture meant to both Societies.
The recently refurbished clubhouse lounges and changing
rooms were excellent.
After proposing a toast to the visitors Malcolm Fuller,
Norfolk Captain, replied. He suitably thanked the Peter
for the toast on behalf of Norfolk and reiterated his thanks
to Erewash Valley and their Captain for being such good
hosts.
He was sure that all present had enjoyed the day, despite
the long journey, and looked forward to the match next year.
