The
Society of Derbyshire Lady Golf Captains this year hosted
the match at Buxton High Peak Golf Club.
The day was eagerly awaited by both teams, however both
teams set out in heavy rain and strong winds.
Grittily all completed their rounds.
The Buxton Men’s Club Captain, Clive Boulton, was
unable to attend through ill health and in his stead Mike
Whalley, a Past Captain and Past President of the host club
and Past Captain of the Society offered the appropriate
words of greeting to all present and gratitude to Buxton
Golf Club for use of their facilities.
Elizabeth
Howe, 2010 Captain of the Ladies Society, read out a card
from Barbara Rodgers, the Ladies President apologising for
her absence. It was learnt that she was enjoying some foreign
sunshine.
Elizabeth paid suitable gratitude for the men for their
company and to Buxton for their hospitality and concluded
by toasting the Society of Derbyshire Golf Captains and
especially those present.
Peter
Brabbing, the visiting Captain in response said that the
course was superb, though on this occasion a little damper
than usual.
The result of the match was very close. After six matches
the scores were level but the last two matches went the
Men’s way resulting in a 5-3 win. The men had therefore
regained the Trophy.
The arrangements made by the Lady Captain Elizabeth had
been first class. He then complimented Jane and her staff
for the superb catering. The Derbyshire players then rose
to toast “The Society of Derbyshire Lady Golf Captains”.
In
2011 the Men host the match and will hopefully be held at
Kedleston Park Golf Club, near Derby.
