The
highlight of the Society Captains year is of course his
Captains Day. The event was as usual very well attended
and played in fine conditions on this very well prepared
course. Mike McLean the long standing club professional
was on hand to greet the Officials and members alike.
Spen
Stanway, Society President, started all the players, The
Captains wife manned and supplied delicious refreshments
at the Halfway House, and Fred Pitt, Society Vice President,
checked all the score cards and produced the results. As
well as the main competition, Nearest the pin was won by
Peter Blair (Pastures), and Longest Drive by Keith Mellors
(Erewash Valley). Allegedly the ball hit a sprinkler head
to go so far!
Overall
winners were David Hoult and David Brown (Tapton Park) with
a score of 42 points on Count back from Max Sharpe and Ray
Twigg (Matlock). Third were the 2009 winners Harry Carlisle
and Jeffrey Wheeler (Cavendish) with 41 points winning that
position similarly on count back from Trevor Smedley and
Norman Lancaster (Matlock).
Stan
Baxter, a longstanding member of the Society then presented
a framed drawing of the Chesterfield Club House to the Captain.
This was of course most gratefully received.
The
Captain Peter Brabbing (Chesterfield) thanked is home club
for their support for him and the Society in affording the
courtesy and as a sign of appreciation presented the home
club Captain, John Guard, a cheque for his charity. It had
been a most memorable day for him and in wishing all a safe
journey home expressed his gratitude to the Society for
the honour of holding this esteemed position within the
Society.
