The
Society of Derbyshire Golf Captains this year hosted the
match at Ashbourne Golf Club on a bright sunny day. Despite
many competitors having to travel a long distance and local
road closures both counties managed to field full teams.
The
undulating Ashbourne course provided a fine test of golf,
and although the new layout is quite new, the course was
very well presented and enjoyed by all. Spen Stanway, the
Derbyshire President, acted as Starter in his own inimitable
manner.
Tony
East, 2010 Ashbourne Captain, said it was a pleasure to
host the day with Peter Brabbing the Derbyshire Captain
paying suitable gratitude to the host club for their hospitality.
Cheques were presented to Tony for his Charity, the catering
staff and green keeping staff. He then paid tribute to the
respective county Secretaries, Colin Annison and John Bevan,
for putting the day together concluded by toasting the Worcestershire
Captains Society.
John
Fletcher, Worcestershire Captain, announced that this year
Derbyshire had just won 5 – 3. The tally over the
last 5 years that the fixture has been played was 3.5 to
1.5 in favour of Derbyshire.
In
2011 Worcestershire host the match and will be held at Fulford
Heath Golf Club on 8th September when old friendships will
be renewed.
