Moor
Hall Golf Club proved to be a delightful setting for our
Annual Match against Warwickshire.
The course is approached down a tree lined private road
and passes by the Moor Hall Hotel.
It was learned that the Hall and much of the land that the
course is played on once used to belong to the Ansell family
of Birmingham brewing fame.
Warwickshire fielded a strong team of dignitaries. Society
Captain Bob Sawers lead the way with the Club Captain, Frank
Longbottom as his partner, and Club President, John Stubbings
and Society President, Keith Gordon making up the pairing
in the second match off.
The home players proved to be too good for Derbyshire on
this occasion and ran out 5.5 to 2.5 overall winners.
Bob
Sawers, Warwickshire Society Captain, warmly welcomed the
Derbyshire team, and offered the appropriate words of greeting
to all present and gratitude to Moor Hall Golf Club.
Peter
Brabbing, the visiting Captain expressed his gratitude to
the hosts and Moor Hall Golf Club for the use of their facilities.
The course was superb and Debbie and her staff had catered
for the refreshment requirements to perfection.
The Derbyshire players then rose to toast “The Society
of Warwickshire Golf Captains”.
The
toast was suitably responded to by the Warwickshire Society.
The return match in Derbyshire in 2011 was eagerly awaited.
