Keith Lovatt, the current Club Captain of Burton Golf Club,
set the pattern by playing well on his home course in Match
one.
Partnered by the Society Captain Peter Brabbing he helped
to secure the first win of the day for Derbyshire.
This set the pattern for the next three matches on the course
and after half the field had returned to the clubhouse the
home county were four matches up.
Herb Farrage, Shropshire Captain, rallied his team and they
managed to secure two wins and a half from the remaining
matches, however this was not sufficient, and the final
result was a win for Derbyshire 5.5 to 2.5.
Shirt
sleeves were the order of the day for the players as they
enjoyed this magnificent course in the south of the county.
The catering staff provided a delicious Ham Salad luncheon
and four course Roast loin of Pork dinner which was appreciated
by both teams.
Herb
Farrage, the visiting Captain, in replying to the Derbyshire
toast “The Shropshire and Herefordshire Society”
expressed his gratitude to the hosts and Burton on Trent
Golf Club for the use of their facilities.
