Almost 200 members and guests attended Pride Park Stadium
for the Society of Derbyshire Golf Captains 44th Annual
Dinner on Thursday 25th March 2010.
The
2009/10 Captain John Carr welcomed all the members and guests
and introduced the 14 new Derbyshire Club Captains present.
Before Dinner was served the President of the Derbyshire
Union of Golf Clubs, John Beddington, said grace. Spen Stanway
proposed the loyal toast at the appropriate time and read
a letter from the Queen’s Private Secretary wishing
the Society well on behalf of Her Majesty.
Irvine
Caplan, the Captain of the Society of Manchester and District
Golf Captains, most eloquently proposed the Toast to the
Society, which was responded to by John Carr, Captain. He
paid tribute to all the Officers and members of the Society
for their support and generosity which had enabled a four
figure donation to be made to the British Heart Foundation.
After introducing the principal guests on the top table
he proposed the toast to “The Guests”
Andrew
Raftery; FRCS; Retired Consultant Surgeon replied on behalf
of the guests and his most amusing delivery was loudly acclaimed
by all present.
The
Captain then presented prizes to the winners of a guest’s
golf competition held earlier that day and concluded by
wishing all a safe journey and a happy golfing year ahead.
