After
the first five matches had returned to the clubhouse the
Sheffield Captains had built up a commanding lead of 5 –
0 over the home team.
A whitewash was not beyond the bounds of possibility. Derbyshire
however rallied to take the next three matches and at 3
– 5 down the home team hoped that the last two pairings
could surmount a late challenge.
It was not to be. Sheffield finished as victors 7 –
3 in this friendly and cordial annual fixture.
The Chapel Secretary, Denise Goldfinch, and Professional
Dave Cullen, were on hand to greet all the players on arrival,
with Simon Hibbert providing an excellent post match dinner.
A warm welcome was extended to all the players by Club Captain
John Pope, and in response the Derbyshire Captain, John
Carr, and the Sheffield Captain of Captains, Barry Lawson,
both agreed that the hospitality that had been afforded
and the condition of the course were excellent.
Donations were made to Chapel en le Frith Mobile Physiotherapy
Services, the club Captains charity, and suitable gratuities
were presented to the staff at Chapel en le Frith G. C.
All present had had a most enjoyable day and aspired that
another visit to this beautiful north of Derbyshire golf
club would not be too far in the distance.
