Nearly
100 members joined Society Captain John Carr for his Captains
Day competition.
Together with Club Captain Arnie Bennett, the Secretary,
Professional and catering staff took care of the visitors
needs including arranging a glorious day weather-wise.
The
format of the competition was 4BBB stableford off ¾
handicap.
This
suited home club players with winners being Jeff Wheeler
& Harry Carlisle with 44 points. Second was another
Cavendish pairing Mike Hallam & Derek Brindley scoring
42 points.
Three pairings returned a score of 40 points and it took
a count back over the last 12 holes to determine that in
third place came Andrew Hession (Matlock) partnered by Pat
Thurlby (Chatsworth) relegating Peter Taylor (Bondhay) and
Peter Wilson (Allestree) into fourth. Just losing out on
a prize were Peter Cliffe & Bob Carter (Ashbourne).
Prizes for nearest the pin on 3 of the 5 par threes on this
McKenzie designed course were won by Keith Capes (Matlock),
Harry Bradford (Horsley Lodge) and Derek Brindley (Cavendish).
As well as thanking Cavendish Golf Club for hosting the
event John Carr (Society Captain) presented cheques to the
Club Captain for his charity and bouquets to two member’s
ladies who manned the refreshment tent on the ninth.
Anyone who knows Cavendish might remember that the 18th
green is somewhat adjacent to the clubhouse. One Society
member misjudged his yardage and smashed a window in the
clubhouse, allegedly wakening seven members from their afternoon
snooze!!
