Roger
Mann, the Warwickshire Captain, unfortunately was unable
to attend because of illness, and we all wish him a speedy
recovery and aspire that he will not miss too much of the
season representing his county. However Bob Sawers his Vice
Captain performed the Captains duties in good stead.
Despite the recent inclement weather in Derbyshire the match
was played in fine conditions, and to a man the condition
of the course was highly praised.
Many of the visitors remarked on the wonderful views enjoyed
whilst ascending to the high point of the course, the 12th
tee. It was well worth the climb.
John Blackburn (Chevin Captain) welcomed all the players
from both counties and said that the Society was always
welcome at Chevin. He was presented with cheques for his
charity and staff gratuities.
John Carr (Derbyshire Captain) acknowledged Chevin for their
kindness and generosity in allowing the society to host
the fixture.
Bob Sawers (Warwickshire Vice-Captain) in his response praised
the host club for their hospitality and for providing such
a delightful course and delicious food both before and after
the match. Before announcing that the match resulted in
a 4 – 4 draw, he thanked the organising Secretaries
Colin Annison & Nigel Metcalfe on behalf of both teams
for their labours.
The return match in 2010 has been arranged to be played
at Moor Hall Golf Club which will provide many of the Derbyshire
Captains with a new venue to be enjoyed.
