Teams
of sixteen from each of the three counties converged on
the delightful Ullesthorpe Golf Club for the Annual Match.
The winners were to hold the Trophy for the ensuing year.
The top 10 scores to count from each county to determine
the winners.
A
solid performance from Cambridgeshire ensured that they
would emerge winners in 2009.
With early returned stableford scores of 36, 35, 34 twice,
and 33 twice Cambridgeshire never looked like they would
be beaten and so it turned out to be. Other notable scores
were 34 from Steve Knight, President of Leicestershire and
35 (Bill McBay) and 34 (Tony Poynton) Derbyshire. The final
result being Cambridgeshire 325, Derbyshire 299 and Leicestershire
295
The
respective Presidents and Captains of the competing counties
were unanimous in their praise for the condition of the
course and delicious catering afforded by the club. Special
thanks were given to Terry Watts (Secretary) and Murdo Ferrier
(Asst Secretary) for their organisation of the match which
was enjoyed by all.
In
conclusion John Carr (Derbyshire Captain) reiterated the
other Captains thanks to Ullesthorpe for the use of the
facilities and invited Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire
to join the Society of Derbyshire Golf Captains at Mickleover
Golf Club near Derby on Tuesday 16th August 2010 to repeat
such an enjoyable day as experienced at Ullesthorpe.
