It is with regret that I must advise you of the passing of
Brian Webb last week. Brian joined the Society in 1991 when
he was Captain of Buxton High Peak G.C. His health prevented
him in taking an active part in recent years.

Road SK10 3BU commencing at 1:20pm on Tuesday 23rd April 2019.
of David Cox
It is with regret that I have to inform you that David Cox
passed away at The Royal Derby Hospital aged 89 on Thursday
4th April 2019.
He was the First Club Captain and a Founder Member of Breadsall
Priory Golf Club in 1977 and thereafter was made Club Life
President. David joined the Society of Derbyshire Golf Captains
in 1977 and was our Society Captain in 1996.
The Funeral Service will be held at Derby Cathedral Irongate
Derby on Tuesday April 23rd commencing at 10.30am. It will
be followed by a private family ceremony at Markeaton Crematorium.
of Arthur Axford
One of the Society's earliest members passed away suddenly
on the 15th March. Arthur a former captain of Buxton High
Peak Golf Club in 1970 joined us in 1971. He had been an active
participant in our competitions until failing health intervened
a few years ago.
service will take place at St Marys Church Dale Road Buxton
SK17 6LN commencing at 1.00pm on Monday 1st April. This will
be followed by cremation at Macclesfield Crematorium at 2.40pm.
Refreshments will be available afterwards at Macclesfield
Masonic Hall 1 Riseley Street Macclesfield SK10 1BW.

of Sid Aldridge
I regret to have to inform you all that Sid passed away on the
26th February. His furneral will take place at Swanwick Crematorium
on Tuesday 12th March commencing at 10.00am.
Family flowers only but donations may be made to the Air Ambulance.
Captain of Ormonde Fields Golf Club in 1973. Sid had been a
member of our Society for 43 years.
of Fred Turtle
It is with regret that I have to advise you of the passing of
Fred Turtle a long time supporter of our Society and a member
of Horsley Lodge Golf Club where he was Captain in 1995
Fred Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family
on 3rd February 2019, aged 81 years.
Much loved husband to Joyce, loved brother to John, adored dad
to Julie, Jeanette and Angela, father-in-law to Joe, Rob and
Ian, Loving grandad to Jade, Lucy, Jodie, James, Laura, Danniella
and Tom, great-grandad to Sophia and a good friend to many.
Funeral Wednesday 27th February at Markeaton Crematorium in
the Main Chapel, service at 12:00pm. Flowers welcome, or donations

of Harry Harding
Harry Harding Captain of Breadsall Priory Golf Club 1985
It is with regret I have to announce the passing of Harry on
Tuesday 31st July.
His funeral will take place at Bramcote Crematorium on Friday
10th August at 2.45pm. His widow Quineth would like members
attending to wear their Society blazers and invites you all
back to Erewash Valley Golf Club. Family flowers only but donations
can be made to the Alzheimer's Society in Harry's name.

It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing after
a long period of illness bravely borne of Fred Pitt on Thursday
26th April 2018 at the age of 89 years.
Fred was a stalwart of the Society. He joined on 13th March
1966 as the Captain of Allestree Park Golf Club only one month
after the Society’s inauguration in February 1966. He
was elected Treasurer in 1976 a position he held until 2005.
During his 29 years in office he computerised the administration
of the Society writing all the programs himself. His computer
program is still used today. After retiring from the post of
Treasurer he was invited to become a Vice-President of the Society.
His funeral will take place at Markeaton Crematorium on Friday
May 11th at 10.40 am. Family Flowers only. Donations
in lieu may be made to Cancer Research UK.

I have to report with sadness the passing of Albert on 21st

of George Cann
have just been informed by Heather Cann that George passed
away on the 21st February and that his funeral will take place
on 5th March at Prestbury Methodist Church, 6 Macclesfield
Road, Prestbury, SK10 4BN commencing at 2.30pm and afterwards
at Davenport Golf Club. George was a Past Captain of Cavendish
Golf Club and had been a member of our Society since 1999.
of Peter Baines
is with heartfelt sadness that I have to announce the passing
away of Peter on Monday 22nd January 2018. He died peacefully
at home whilst sitting in his lounge after dinner. He joined
the Society as Captain of Chevin Golf Club in 1990 and had
recently been appointed President of Chevin.
Details of the funeral arrangements will be advised when known.
A private ceremony will take place at the crematorium on 23rd
February. This will be followed by a Memorial Service at St
Alkmund Church Duffield commencing at 2.00pm. You are then
invited to join the family at Chevin Golf Club

of Gerald Turner
sudden death of Gerald Turner President of Chesterfield Golf
Club occurred on the 17th December 2017 at the age of 88 years.
Gerald joined the Society as Captain of Stanedge Golf Club
later joined Chesterfield Golf Club and served as their Captain
some 20 years later. In 2005 he was appointed President of
the Derbyshire Union. He was well known in the County for
his considerable contribution to Junior Golf. He will be sadly
missed by all who knew him.
The funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on
Monday 8th January commencing at 9.50am.
of Peter J Farmer
is with much regret that we announce the passing of Peter
aged 82 years on 10th December 2017 at the Derby Royal Hospital.
He joined the Society in 1980 as captain of Ashbourne Golf
Club and as well as serving on the committee he was instrumental
in transforming the Club from 9 to 18 holes. He was also a
past President of the Club.

Passing of Billy Steel
is with much regret that we learnt today of the sudden passing
of Billy Steel aged 59 a former County Golf Captain in 2002/3
and Captain of Chevin Golf Club in 2008.

11th October at 11.0Oam and afterwards at Chevin Golf Club.
Passing of Arthur J Burns
I have to report the passing of Arthur on 4th April 2017.
Arthur joined the Society in 1989 when he became Captain of
Mickleover Golf Club and was elected Society Captain for 2005.
During the last 3 decades he also held several offices at
Mickleover Golf Club culminating in the post of President
an office that he had held for nearly 3 years.
He was an extremely valued member of the Society Executive
Committee having served since 2002 and will be sorely missed
by us all.
funeral will take place on the 20th April 2017 commencing
with a service at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Mickleover
at 1.30pm followed by a Cremation Service at Markeaton Crematorium
and friends are invited back to Mickleover Golf Club afterwards
at approx. 4.00pm
Passing of Danny Harrison
is with regret that we have to announce the passing of Danny
Harrison after a lengthy illness. He joined the Society in
1986 as captain of Breadsall Priory Golf Club.
His Funeral will take place at Markeaton Crematorium on 12th
April at 2.30pm.
The Annual Dinner took
place on the 24th March at The Proact Stadium at Chesterfield
again this year, where Geoff Miller former Derbyshire, Essex
and England cricketer was guest speaker.

Warwickshire Captains at Nuneaton G.C.
the heavy rain yesterday lunchtime caused the cancellation
of this match without a ball being hit.
has now been re arranged for Monday 1st August 2016.
Tony Broadhurst a Past Captain of Ashbourne Golf Club and
a Past Captain of our Society was elected President of the
Derbyshire Union at their AGM in March this year.
Our society were invited by the Leeds Society of Golf Captains
to send 4 players to take part in their Captains Re-Union
Meeting on the 26th April. Bob Roberts, John Barber, Tom Hitchcock
and Martin Eyre were our representatives.
It was a cool day with the Leeds G.C. course in good April
condition with lightening fast greens.
our players fell a little short of the prize table, but a
most enjoyable time was had by all

The Saunton Salver
A team from Derbyshire entered a multi Golf Captains Society
event at Saunton Sands, Devon last week
See below report from Mike Whalley Buxton High Peak who acted
as Captain for the event
Just a brief summery on the recent Saunton Salver played in
Devon. The competition was a huge success, professionally organised
by Devon secretary Colin Maw. The East and West courses of Saunton
Golf club were set up in fantastic condition and very challenging,
the greens were super fast and not for the faint hearted so
congratulations to the Derbyshire team in achieving 4th place
also well done to Pat Cliffe and Ian Neal, Paul Waring and Mike
Whalley winning individual prizes.
On a personal note as acting team captain may I offer my sincere
thanks to the Derbyshire team for their great social support
making this a unique golfing experience.

win for Ron Adams
English Golf Captains Tournament 2011
In this years qualifying round of the EGC tournament, at Hallowes
Golf Club, Ron Adams (Past Captain Ormonde Fields G. C. )
qualified for the National Finals and a Free Holiday in Morocco
with a score of 39 points. Although not performing well at
the National Finals, in Agadir he led the field after round
1 by 2 points and after round 2 by 7 points. He hung on in
the 3rd round to win the event by 6 points to beat the other
19 qualifiers at the Ocean Club. He was rewarded with an engraved
plaque, cash and another free holiday in Agadir with four
rounds of golf.
